It’s been a big week for the letter C with the unveiling of Caitlyn Jenner on the cover of Vanity Fair.
If you heard the name Caitlyn Jenner a year ago (or even a week ago) you would probably have thought she was a step-sister of Kim Kardashian-West. But this Caitlyn, definitely spelt with a C, no mistakes there, is more than a face famous for being famous. Caitlyn is the new face of the transgender community and a new voice for millions around the world.
Caitlyn in a corset on the cover of Vanity Fair has created a deluge of online and offline commentary. It’s even kept a She_not_he bot busy correcting incorrect pronouns across the Twitter verse.
Her story has been documented by the press and inhaled by the public. What has shone through most out of the coverage in 2015 thus far, is the love and devotion she has for her family and that they have for her.
Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Olympian and reality television star Bruce Jenner from Keeping Up with the Kardashians, has become the latest cover girl for US magazine Vanity Fair. Caitlyn’s life before this historic magazine cover was nothing short of incredible – being a gold medallist at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
The Olympic decathlon champion made her introduction on Twitter just days ago, and with that has become a Guinness World Record holder after @Caitlyn_Jenner became the fastest Twitter account to reach 1 million followers. Wow. This alone is a great feat!
Jenner posted: “Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can’t wait for you to get to know her/me.”
“Caitlyn Jenner” and the hashtag #CallMeCaitlyn quickly rocketed to the top of the Twitterverse as the top trending topic on the world wide web.
Most comments have been positive, and have mainly focused on Caitlyn’s new look. We’ll leave you in the capable hands of Laverne Cox to give you her thoughts on the reveal. Even an internet meme has been created comparing Caitlyn to her ex wife Chris, with a cheeky mock.
Only a month after Bruce’s interview with Diane Sawyer when he promised to show ‘herself’ to the world in her own time, and let us “meet her”. Caitlyn has followed through on that promise, and with it gained a big following.
To many she is an inspiration as an amazing athlete, and now as a brave woman with courage to move past denial into her truth so publicly.
To Caitlyn and her family we wish her a wonderful new life.
Cheers, Jack and the c word crew
